Cyanotype 15
Original 8” x 10” cyanotype in a 12” x 16” frame, ready to hang.
Cyanotypes are a photographic printing process made by exposing paper with a light-sensitizing chemical. The word cyanotype was derived from the Greek work “cyan” which means “dark-blue impression.”
Each print is one of a kind.
Q: Why are these only being sold framed?
A: Art works on paper must be framed to be displayed. For this reason, I wanted you, the collector, to be able to display the work immediately, without the delay of waiting for the framing. Framing also elevates art and makes it look complete.
I chose a handmade solid wood, super high quality frame for this piece to add warmth and balance to the piece.
In these cyanotypes artist Ellen Mote layers abstractions of the female form, in a sheer manner nodding to her own feelings of invisibility as a woman and a mother. Ellen challenges our pursuit of perfection and the impossibility of the expectation with symmetrical, but imperfect, lines and shapes.
